3Box Labs builds Ceramic, a decentralized data network for high-volume data applications on the open web. Ceramic enables developers to build composable, user-centric data applications with open-source protocols. As Head of Engineering, you will drive the delivery and growth of the Engineering organization while ensuring technical excellence and well-being of the team, and help guide the strategy and technical direction of the Ceramic ecosystem. You will be the first non-founder on the executive team, reporting to co-founder and Head of Project, Danny Zuckerman. Key Responsibilities: - Lead and grow the engineering organization, setting technical vision and strategy - Drive delivery of the Ceramic protocol roadmap alongside product and community teams - Build a strong engineering culture on a diverse, remote-first distributed team - Recruit, mentor, and develop senior engineers and engineering managers - Partner with the protocol and open-source community to align technical direction Requirements: - Experience in one of: Web3/crypto, databases/data lakes/data streaming, or a development platform known for great DX - Exceptional communication and mentorship skills — able to rally the team around a shared vision - Comfort with remote-first workflow and ability to build strong team culture - Ability to lead in a fast-changing, high-growth environment with comfort in uncertainty - Prior CTO or VP Engineering experience at a startup preferred
