Staff Distributed Systems Engineer (Metalayer)

Caldera's Metalayer is a high-performance, stack-agnostic bridge and interoperability layer connecting 75+ rollups. It provides a unified experience for users and developers across the fragmented L2 landscape. As Staff Distributed Systems Engineer (Metalayer), you will shape the technical direction of the off-chain systems powering the Metalayer, including relayers, sequencers, and cross-chain coordination infrastructure. Key Responsibilities: - Design and build high-performance distributed systems for cross-chain messaging and bridging - Architect relayer infrastructure that processes and validates cross-chain transactions at scale - Define technical standards and best practices for distributed systems across the Metalayer - Drive major technical decisions and mentor senior engineers - Collaborate with protocol engineers on the end-to-end Metalayer design Requirements: - 8+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production - Expert-level proficiency in Go and/or Rust - Deep experience with consensus protocols, distributed coordination, and fault tolerance - Experience with blockchain infrastructure — running nodes, understanding finality models, working with RPCs and indexers - Track record of leading major technical initiatives and mentoring senior engineers
